How to take garment measurements of tops, dresses, abayas and jackets:

Lay out a similar garment you own flat on the floor or on a table. Using a soft measuring tape, take the following measurements:

Length: Measure the centre back of the garment, from the bottom of the neckline until the end of the hem at the bottom of the garment.

Sleeve: Measure the length of the sleeve from the point of its attachment at the top of the shoulder, to the end of the cuff hem.

Bust: Measure immediately underneath the armhole, across the chest of the garment.

Shoulder: Measure from the point of sleeve attachment at the top of the shoulder on one side, to the same point on the other side.

Waist: Measure 6.5" (17cm) down from underneath the armhole. This gives you the waist level. Now measure across the width of the garment.

Hip: Measure 14.5" (37cm) down from underneath the armhole. This gives you the hip level. Now measure across the width of the garment.

How to take garment measurements of skirts:

Lay out a similar garment you own flat on the floor or on a table. Using a soft measuring tape, take the following measurements:

Length: Measure the center the garment, from the top of the waistband until the end of the hem at the bottom of the garment.

Waist: Measure the top of the waistband, from one side to another, following the curve of the waistband.

Hip: Measure 8" (20cm) down the centre from the top of the waistband. This gives you the hip level. Now measure across the width of the garment.

How to take garment measurements of trousers:

Lay out a similar garment you own flat on the floor or on a table. Using a soft measuring tape, take the following measurements:

Length (Outside seam): Measure the side of one of the legs, from the top of the waistband until the end of the hem at the bottom of the garment.

Length (Inseam): Measure from the crotch of the trousers until the end of the hem at the bottom of one of the legs.

Waist: Measure the top of the waistband, from one side to another, following the curve of the waistband.

Hip: Measure 8" (20cm) down the side of one of the legs from the top of the waistband. This gives you the hip level. Now measure across the width of the garment.

    Women's Measuring Guide

Height: For best results, stand barefoot next to a doorframe, and then measure from head to toe. Even better, get a friend or family member to do it for you.

Shoulder: Measure from shoulder tip to shoulder tip across the back.

Bust: Measure underneath the arms around the fullest part of your bust and across the shoulder blades.

Waist: Measure around your natural waistline (the slimmest part of the waist), keeping the tape comfortably loose.

Hips: Measure around the widest part of your hips (normally about 8" (20cm) below your natural waistline).

    Fabric and Care
    • Fabric: Linen 55%, Rayon 45%
    • Care: Machine wash

    Did you know?

Linen : Maybe the most classic of natural fabrics, linen has excellent luster and a crisp feel. Comfortable and highly absorbent, linen is similar to cotton, however is twice as strong. We love it for warmer weather, but linen is great for layering in all seasons.

Rayon : Rayon is soft and comfortable, and drapes beautifully. It is even more moisture absorbent than cotton, making it a comfortable fabric to wear all year long.
When SHUKR uses the term Viscose instead of Rayon to describe fabric, it refers to a higher quality fabric with extra sheen and softness compared to regular Rayon.

    Further Fabric Details? (What's this?)

    • Fabric Weight: Medium
    • Fabric Type: Woven - Plain
    • Fabric Code: L23

Fabric Weight: SHUKR’s has classified the different fabrics it uses into three different degrees of weight in order to help the customer make an informed purchasing choice:

    1. Light weight (fabrics weighing between 75-150 grams per square metre). These fabrics are great for warmer weather and for layering all year round.
    2. Medium weight (fabrics weighing between 150-225 grams per square metre). These are fabrics which work well all year round, but might be a bit too warm for very hot summer climates.
    3. Heavy weight (fabrics weighing over 225 grams per square metre). These fabrics are best worn in Spring, Autumn and Winter.

Fabric Type: Some customers are interested in knowing what the fabric construction is. There are 2 basic types of fabrics, categorized according to the type of machine that makes it: woven and knitted. Woven fabrics come in 3 main sub-categories: plain weave, twill weave and satin weave. Knitted fabrics, like the popular jersey, are normally stretchy fabrics that are good for t-shirts and tops, sportswear and comfortable dresses. Apart from jersey, other common knitted fabrics are French terry, ponte de roma and rib.

Fabric Code: SHUKR, like all companies, often uses the same fabrics for many designs. Repeat customers may like a fabric of a particular garment they purchased from SHUKR in the past and want to know what other products are available in this same fabric.
